Sammonlahti school is a comprehensive school in the west area of the city of Lappeenranta. The school functions in four different school units. The school has around 900 students, 85 teachers and 15 school assistants. All our primary school units include preschools which are organized by the early childhood education department. In addition to basic education the school organizes instruction preparing for basic education and Finnish as second language teaching for students with immigration background.
In Sammonlahti Secondary school (grades 7-9) the students are offered a possibility to study in the following study lines:
- English language and culture
- Physical education and sports
- Science, mathematics and technology
- Arts and craft
Sammonlahti school has been working as a certified school for sustainable development for the longest period of time out of all basic education schools in Finland. The school has been granted Green flag -status (level of sustainability) and also an official environment certificate by the OKKA-foundation for working meritously within the international environment framework.
Sammonlahti school is a part of the “Lighthouse”-development school network provided by the Finnish National Agency for Education, as well as GreenReality- network provided by the city of Lappeenranta. Sammonlahti school is an active developer school for both Lappeenranta Junior University procedure and LUMA (Science)-development in Finland. The school also has a strong partnership with LAB University of Applied Sciences and LUT-university.
